I’m Chef Jae (Jason if you wanna be formal), a 21 year old self-taught baker with a passion (and I mean a passion) for food. Give me ingredients and I will cook. Ever since my first food tech lesson in year 7, I’ve felt right at home in the kitchen and hope to share my recipes, as well as handy little tips, with you so that you enjoy them too! I also had the wonderful opportunity of being a contestant on The Great British Bake Off 2011 (series 2) and now do baking demos, write recipes and spend many hours in the kitchen (let’s just say I have some lucky mates, family and neighbours!) =D

September 14th, 2011 at 15:47
So pleased I’ve found your blog, and absolutely gutted you went from GBBO last night. I actually was quite emotional watching the ending! I really thought you’d make it through to the final, loved your imaginative flavour combinations. Please keep it up, you’re such an inspiration!
September 20th, 2011 at 19:09
Was really sad to see you go last week. Good luck in the future
September 21st, 2011 at 01:30
Thanks to you guys for your lovely messages – it means a lot!
September 21st, 2011 at 23:05
Such a shame to see you leave last week. You had your first not so good week – as everyone else seems to have had – and yet you had to go. If you look at the thread on the Mumsnet website under Telly Addicts you will see lots of people outraged that they got rid of you. Love the blog. Keep up the good work.
September 22nd, 2011 at 11:18
Hi Fiona,
Thanks for taking the time to stop by! =]
I’ve now made it a mission to perfect my pies in the near future! It sure is lovely having support from you and those at Mumsnet =]

Yes Jae, agree with all of the above – you most definitely shoulda been in the final. I think you got a bright future ahead of you though – you are very televisual – tell us you’ve got some offers for more TV work please – there is definitely a market out there for you. You are also an excellent role model for young people.. so c’mon Mister…what’s next from the Jaester ??!!
Best of luck in all you do !
Rob
September 22nd, 2011 at 11:21
Yes mi fren Rob,
I would’ve loved to be in the final but hey ho (I say that now! lol). I’d love to do more TV work and work with young people, if and when anything definite comes up I’ll let ya’ll know.
Cheers dude =]
September 22nd, 2011 at 17:07
Yes mi fren….just passing by and thought I’d pop in! lol
Yes Jase, fantastic work on Sunday (Thornton Heath Festival), all who missed it missed out! Jason’s cupcakes sold like …..hot cakes, literally! lol
Hopefully Jase in the near future there can be some sort of partnership…me u and Mel and the name… MILLIONHAIRS CUPCAKES.. or maybe not! Cos I definitely wouldn’t eat anything with hairs innit!
Love you loads Godbro! xxxxx
September 30th, 2011 at 00:33

Hey Jason,
I have really enjoyed watching the Great British Bake off and seeing your FUN in the kitchen. You remind me so much of my brother in personality (who still lives in South Africa) so it’s been fun to see someone who reminds me so much of him.
What has been brilliant is to see your character. It’s SO great to see a young guy who is cheerful, descent, respectful and just lovely – AND gifted. It is such an example to young guys watching this!
Thanks Jason!
Liesl
September 30th, 2011 at 00:35
Hi Liesl,
It’s great to hear from all my supporters out there! I’m pleased I was able to remind you of such good memories (even if I wasn’t aware!).
Thank you!
Jason =]

I was absolutely devastated when you were voted off last week on GBBO! I’ve been following you since the beginning of the series and was hoping you’d reach the final. Thanks for the recipes. My boyfriend and I are going to have a go at the mocktail macaroons! First time round, the mixture was stodgy and the macaroons were stuck to the greaseproof paper!
September 30th, 2011 at 00:37
Hi Zana,
Thanks for popping by!
I will testify to the difficulty of making macaroons – I must have made over 10 batches before I was satisfied with mine. I’d suggest you just keep practising and also check other blogs online where people put step-by-step pictures to really help you get it right.
Hope this helps and happy baking!

[...] We watched this as a family (rare in our household these days) until my teens boycotted it after Jason was voted off. In the final episode there was a little bio on the contestants including Mary-Ann [...]

Hey Jae, I loved you on GBBO. I just watched the update programme on BBC iPlayer and I had to find out more about what you are up to.
Props to you! It’s so good to see your talents have contined to be put to good use. You are an inspiration you young men who want to follow their passion; there is so much peer pressure to not follow their dreams.
Go confidently in the direction of your dreams!
